Fishing at Hailsham Country Park

The Southdown & Hydneye Community Angling Club (SHCAC) has recently manages the lease of the Hailsham Country Park lake and Hempstead Pond and there isn’t currently a closed season, although if there are signs of spawning, the lake and pond may be temporarily closed.

Photo of the Hailsham Country Park (Gleneagles) lakeFishing is permitted on the east bank and two end swims only on the west bank of the Hailsham Country Park Lake (off Gleneagles Drive). Fishing is also allowed on Hempstead (Lily) Pond (adjacent to Tilehurst Wood). Both venues are well stocked with fish including carp, roach, rudd, tench, perch and pike – some to specimen sizes. SHCAC sometimes allows the odd coarse match bookings to other clubs or groups.

NO bait boats, drones, bivvies, open fires, and barbecues. However, small fishing stoves are allowed.

Pike fishing is prohibited during the summer months –  anglers can only fish for pike from 1st October until 31st March. Live baiting is not allowed.

There is a 2-rod limit.

The lake is open all year for coarse fishing.

Most of the usual methods and baits work well including traditional baits such as maggots, worms, sweetcorn, bread and ground bait. The usual pellet and boilie approach works, especially for the larger specimens.
