Long-standing local councillor Paul Holbrook has been elected Town Mayor and Chairman at the Annual Meeting of Hailsham Town Council held on Wednesday evening [15 May].
On accepting the chain of office, Councillor Holbrook stated that his long-term vision is for a town that is community driven, with a positive and co-operative mindset – and will continue working towards an improved town that will become an attractive focus for the growing population of Hailsham.
“I am deeply honoured to have been elected by the Council to Mayorship of the town, yet, despite the many privileges associated with the role, I am aware of the burden of responsibility which it brings as an ambassador and representative of the people of Hailsham.
A lot can be achieved in our town and the Council has elected somebody going forward as Town Mayor who will work with different groups of people to face the challenges we face in the future. Hailsham is a special place, and I will work hard to ensure that it remains so.
In my capacity as Chairman of the Council, I will work hard for the good of this town and all who live and work here. I am at ease knowing that much can be achieved with the support of an active team of fellow town councillors and officers – and the support of the town’s people too.
Over the years, I have witnessed how the Town Mayor and Chairman can be a unifying force for the town and I really hope that I can achieve this too during my term.
I look forward to the many opportunities to recognise, celebrate and support dedicated people working in the voluntary, business, education, and local government sectors. I am at your disposal and if I can be of assistance to you in any way, please contact the Town Council Offices.”
