Future Improvement Works for Hailsham Country Park

Council News & Services

Residents in Hailsham will be able to enjoy an upgraded and more disabled-friendly pathway at Hailsham Country Park, once contractors are able to commence work on-site.

Work on the resurfacing of the path around the country park lake will see coverage of the existing path with uniform tarmac, making the path more accessible for disabled users.

The Western Recreation Ground is also set to benefit from a major improvement that will make the popular park even more appealing to people of all ages – the construction of an all-weather path covering the perimeter of the recreation ground.

Residents should be advised that commencement of work on both sites may be delayed as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak.

“Hailsham Country Park is a much-loved community site and provides local users with many opportunities to enjoy the vibrant open space for leisure and other activities,” said Town Mayor Councillor Paul Holbrook.

“Local residents have stressed the need to improve accessibility around the lake at the country park. We’ve listened and I’m delighted to see that the future perimeter path resurfacing work has been agreed.”

Councillor Richard Grocock, chairman of the Town Council’s Assets Management Committee said: “We hold great pride in our open spaces and work hard work to ensure that the high standards expected from users of the facility are met.”

“We endeavour to undertake necessary maintenance, repairs, restoration and improvement of the recreation ground and make it as accessible as possible for members of the local community.”

Other recent improvement works carried out on the Hailsham Country Park site include the resurfacing of the car park off Gleneagles Close, replacing the original surface which was showing signs of deterioration with new tarmac. Additionally, the cutting back of the tree canopy at the entrance to the car park was undertaken and designated parking bays have been introduced with appropriate markings to prevent disabled visitors being obstructed by other visitors.
