Hailsham Town Council’s survey exploring women’s and girls’ participation in sport has now closed, with responses received from residents across the town.

The survey formed part of the Town Council’s wider campaign promoting women’s and girls’ sport in Hailsham and was designed to provide a better understanding of residents’ experiences, views and priorities when it comes to local sporting opportunities.

Residents were invited to share their views on a range of issues, including the availability and quality of local sports facilities, the range of clubs and sporting opportunities, potential improvements and any barriers that may prevent women and girls from participating.

The survey was open to everyone, including those who currently participate in sport, volunteer with local clubs, have children involved in sporting activities, support local teams or simply have an interest in sport and recreation.

The Town Council has thanked everyone who took the time to complete the survey and contribute their views. The responses will now be collated and analysed.

The survey is part of the Council’s ongoing campaign to highlight and support women’s and girls’ sport across Hailsham, which has included celebrating the achievements of local clubs and teams such as Hailsham Town FC Women, Hailsham Cricket Club’s Women’s Roses, Hailsham Tennis Club’s Ladies Teams, Hailsham Hockey Club and Hailsham Bowling Club.

Town Mayor, Councillor Chris Bryant, said: “I would like to thank everyone who took the time to complete our women’s and girls’ sport survey and share their views with us. The response from residents has given us a valuable opportunity to listen to the community and help us gain a better understanding of people’s experiences and priorities.”

“Promoting greater participation in sport is not simply about encouraging people to take part; it is also about understanding what opportunities are available, where improvements may be needed and what barriers may prevent women and girls from getting involved.”

“We already have some fantastic clubs, teams, volunteers and sporting organisations doing important work across Hailsham. The responses to this survey will help us understand how we can support and build on that work in the future.”

“We are now carefully collating the responses. I would like to thank everyone who contributed and helped make this survey an important part of our wider campaign.”

Councillor Dave Chapman, Chair of the Town Council’s Assets Management Committee, added: “The survey has provided residents with an opportunity to tell us directly about their experiences of local sport and the facilities and opportunities available to them.”

“We are particularly interested in understanding any practical, financial, accessibility or other barriers that may affect participation, as well as hearing where residents believe there are opportunities for further development.”

“The responses will now be brought together and reviewed so that we can identify the key themes and issues raised by the community. The findings will help inform future conversations with local sports clubs, organisations, partners and facility providers.”

The results of the survey will help inform future discussions and initiatives by the Town Council, aimed at supporting the continued development of sporting opportunities for women and girls of all ages and abilities across Hailsham.
