Q. What services does the Town Council offer?
A. Hailsham Town Council exists to serve the residents of the parish. If you want to raise any local issues you can either attend a council meeting, contact the Town Clerk or relevant officer, the Town Mayor or one of the other councillors. They will all be happy to help or refer you to someone who can.

Q. Where and when does the Town Council meet?
A. The Town Council meets at the Hailsham Civic Community Hall on a bi-monthly basis. Meetings usually commence at 7.30pm, dates of which for each calendar year are displayed on our meetings page.

Q. Can I come along to council meetings?
A. Residents and members of the public are welcome to attend our council and committee meetings, with the exception of individual items of confidential business, meetings held to discuss matters of a confidential nature and informal workshops. The agenda of full council and committee meetings always include a public participation session at which members of the public are welcome to ask questions or state their views.

Q. How do I report a street light out?
A. The Town council maintains over 500 street lights in Hailsham. The best course of action is to report any outages or day-burns by calling 0345 60 80 193. Alternatively, report it online.

Q. Where are the Town Council’s noticeboards?
A. The council maintains seven noticeboards, located at Hailsham Country Park (Gleneagles), Common Pond (Bellbanks Road), Maurice Thornton Playing Field (Marshfoot Lane), Western Road Recreation Ground, Vicarage Field, Cuckoo Trail (by Tesco North Street) and outside the James West Community Centre (Brunel Drive). Public notices are also displayed in the front window of the Town Council Offices in Market Street.

Q. Are there public conveniences in Hailsham?
A. Yes, these are located in Vicarage Field (opposite the GP surgery near Waitrose) and are maintained by the Town Council. The toilets are open Monday to Saturday from 8am to 4pm and Sunday from 10am to 4pm.

Q.  Do you maintain dog waste bins?
A. No. However, the Town Council maintains several dual-purpose bins across the town, which can be used for both general litter and dog-waste. Alternatively, dog waste can go in your refuse bin at home.

Q.  How do I report cruelty to wildlife at Hailsham Country Park or Common Pond?
A. Anyone witnessing an incident in progress to contact police immediately by calling 999. Non-emergency information or reports can be made via 101. Additionally, incidents can be reported to the League Against Cruel Sports through its Animal Crimewatch service online, by phone on 0300 444 1234 or via email at crimewatch@league.org.uk.

Q. How do I report an abandoned shopping trolley?
A. If you see a shopping trolley abandoned please report it direct to the relevant retailer or via one of the following trolley collection companies: Asda (request@collextrolley.com | 0800 0933 350); Others (trolleywise@wanzl.co.uk | 0800 316 1241).

Q. Who is responsible for gritting the roads when covered in snow/ice? 
A. East Sussex County Council is responsible for gritting the main carriageways and footways in the county. Please call 0345 60 80 193 for all enquiries.

Q. Where is the nearest household recycling centre?
A. The nearest recycling centre for household waste is located off Station Road, Hailsham. Opening times vary according to the time of year. The centre is run by East Sussex County Council. Click here for further information.
