Youth Services Keep Youngsters Busy During Summer Months

Hailsham Youth Service projects

Young people aged 11 to 17 have enjoyed a wide range of fun activities this summer thanks to the Square Youth Café, Friday Night Project and partner agencies.

The Town Council’s youth project team – Hailsham Youth Service – organised a varied line-up of free and low-cost activities designed to liven up the summer holidays, take them on various recreational outings and encouraging even more young people through the doors of the Square Youth Cafe.

The Town Council is grateful for the continued support of partnering organisations such as Hailsham Community College, as well as generous funding from the Safer Wealden Partnership.

Activities that took place at the Square Youth Café, included craft sessions and barbeques.

A variety of activities for young people were organised during the summer break for the Friday Night Project (FNP), including activities at Knockhatch Adventure Park such as bungees, giant pillows and an inflatable assault course, as well as a trip to Thorpe Park in July.

Youth project coordinator Andy Joyes said the young people were happy with the program of summer activities, many of which were keenly anticipated: “We wanted this summer to be productive and fun for young people. I know that those who took part in the various outings and events organised by the Square Youth Café enjoyed them tremendously and all outings were attended by staff members to ensure their safety and well-being at all times.”

Town Mayor Councillor Paul Holbrook commented: “The Town Council is pleased to have offered something for young people during the summer holidays and into the autumn period, the wide range of popular activities fulfilling our aim to improve the life chances of young people in the town.”

“I’m delighted with the quality of service provided for our young people by the youth project team and confident that its wide range of activities will continue to be successful well into the future.”
