This year’s summer season in Hailsham looks a lot more promising than it did last year, with a string of events planned in the town from July, including the long-awaited ‘Hailsham Live’ entertainment extravaganza.

The Hailsham Live event, which was previously postponed twice last year due to the pandemic, will take place in the High Street and Vicarage Field on Saturday 10th July and will include free-to-attend live music and entertainment, charity stalls, a street market, rides, games, food and drink.

In addition to the town centre community event, a day of staged entertainment for all the family has been announced, which will take place alongside the celebrations in the Vicarage Road car park. The ticketed Hailsham Live session is set to be a day to remember for visitors according to event organisers (of which the Town Council is a partner) with top level entertainment on a large outdoor stage.

Visitors can enjoy hot and cold food, local beers and and a prosecco bar, along with stalls selling candy floss, ice cream and popcorn, in addition to fairground rides. From midday until 10pm, visitors will enjoy the UK’s Number 1 P!NK tribute act along with performances from the RockitMen and a tribute to Gary Barlow and Take That.

If that wasn’t enough, Britain’s Got Talent finalist, Steve Hewlett, will also be appearing on stage offering a comedy and ventriloquist act for all the family.

Organiser Paul Gibson said: “We are ready to give Hailsham an amazing day and evening of pure fun and entertainment, and more importantly, raise money for the charities coming along to the High Street as they have really suffered over the past year.”

He added: “I can’t thank the all the people and businesses we’re working with enough who are helping to make this day happen for Hailsham. We are also very grateful to the event sponsors in ensuring the event goes ahead.”

Event organisers are actively working with local authorities to make the event COVID-safe and ensure audience numbers are limited to allow for adequate physical distancing.

Sanitiser facilities will be available and more space will be created in both the High Street and Vicarage Road car park venues to ensure visitors feel safe to attend.

The Government’s ‘Roadmap to Recovery’ scheme plans to lift all restrictions on large outdoor events on 21st June. However, event organisers will continue to closely monitor the situation and will provide updates to the public as further plans proceed.

Town Clerk John Harrison commented: “I speak for everyone when I say that it’s exciting to be getting out and about again this summer and we are all looking forward in anticipation to a wide range of town events such as Hailsham Live, meeting up safely with others and enjoying all of the things that we’ve missed over the past year and once took for granted.”

“Hailsham Live organiser Paul Gibson and his dedicated team have worked tirelessly in recent months to help give us all something to look forward to this summer, with a round-up of quality live entertainment, food, drink and much more.”
