Hailsham Town Council has provided funding of £500 to Children With Cancer Fund, one of a number of recent grants given to local community groups and voluntary associations as part of the Council’s 2026/27 Community Grants Scheme.

A total of £9,000 has been awarded to a wide range of non-profit organisations, aimed at enhancing facilities, activities and projects that benefit the residents of Hailsham. Such funds are intended to assist organisations that rely on public donations, fundraising and volunteers to deliver valuable services to the community.

Formed in 1998, Children With Cancer Fund is a local charity which aims to grant wishes to children up to the age of eighteen, and their families, who have, or have had, cancer and who primarily live in East Sussex.

Wishes can be practical, medical or fun and made to individual families as well as supporting a group together by giving them quality family time. The charity can also support local hospitals and community nurses who assist in the care of the children under its remit.

Deputy Town Mayor and Vice-Chair, Cllr Colin Mitchell, who sits on the Finance & Governance Committee, said: “We are pleased to offer a grant of £500 to the Children With Cancer Fund. The charity provides invaluable help to children and families facing some of the most challenging circumstances imaginable, helping to create special memories and offering practical support when it is needed most.”

“The work carried out by the charity has a real and lasting impact on the lives of local families, and we are pleased that this grant will contribute towards its continued efforts in Hailsham and across East Sussex.”

Town Mayor, Cllr Chris Bryant commented: “Our grant scheme is the main way in which the Town Council provides funding and support to the voluntary sector. Most of the time, voluntary groups and charities survive on the generosity of donations from the public, fundraising and the willingness of volunteers to give up their time.”

“Small grants such as these are a valuable addition to this mix and can make a considerable difference to them when planning and funding a worthwhile project.”
