Town Council Community Grant Awards: Hailsham Writing Group

Hailsham Town Council has provided funding of £250 to Hailsham Writing Group, one of a number of recent grants given to local community groups and voluntary associations as part of the Council’s 2026/27 Community Grants Scheme.

A total of £9,000 has been awarded to a wide range of non-profit organisations, aimed at enhancing facilities, activities and projects that benefit the residents of Hailsham. Such funds are intended to assist organisations that rely on public donations, fundraising and volunteers to deliver valuable services to the community.​

Hailsham Writing Group is a relaxed and informal group of people who enjoy writing. Some members are published, while some have not written since they were at school. The group meets on the third Thursday of every month from 10.30am to 12.30pm in the Members’ Room at the Town Council offices in Market Street. Everybody is welcome to attend. The entry fee is a £3 donation, which includes refreshments.

“Whether the last time you put pen to paper and explored your creativity was at school, or whether you are a budding writer hoping to get something published members all enjoy either writing in the moment or taking writing projects away with them,” said group facilitator and local newspaper correspondent, Jenny Seale. “We chat, giggle, make friends and get creative.”

“I’m very grateful to the Town Council for providing us with this grant, which will help towards future group sessions and activities which we hope will include speakers on a variety of subjects.”

Town Mayor, Cllr Chris Bryant commented: “Our grant scheme is the main way in which the Town Council provides funding and support to the voluntary sector. Most of the time, voluntary groups and charities survive on the generosity of donations from the public, fundraising and the willingness of volunteers to give up their time.”

“Small grants such as these are a valuable addition to this mix and can make a considerable difference to them when planning and funding a worthwhile project.”
