Town Council Celebrates Success of Hailsham Town FC Women

The Town Council is continuing its campaign to celebrate and promote women’s and girls’ sport by highlighting the achievements of Hailsham Town Football Club’s Women’s team, whose home matches are played at The Beaconsfield on the Western Road Recreation Ground.

The campaign recognises the growing contribution of female athletes and community sports clubs across the town, while encouraging more women and girls to get involved in football and other sporting activities.

Hailsham Town FC Women have enjoyed an impressive rise since the team’s formation, providing a clear pathway for female players to progress into senior competitive football as part of Hailsham Town Football Club’s expanding community programme. Following a successful campaign, the team has now secured promotion to the Premier Division of the Sussex County Women & Girls Football League, marking another significant milestone in the club’s development.

Established to increase opportunities for women and girls to play football locally, the team has quickly become an integral part of the club’s long-term vision. Alongside league competition, the squad regularly competes in county cup competitions, helping to strengthen the football pathway from youth teams through to the senior game.

The team’s inaugural season in 2024/25 proved to be a memorable one, culminating in a place in the Sussex County Women & Girls Challenge Cup Final. Although they finished as runners-up to Eastbourne Borough Women, reaching the county final represented a remarkable achievement and demonstrated the squad’s potential.

Building on that success, Hailsham Town FC Women continued to impress throughout the 2025/26 season, consistently competing against some of the strongest sides in the division and earning promotion through their performances. The club has also continued to recruit new players, welcoming women of all abilities and experience levels to join its growing squad.

The increasing success of the women’s team has attracted strong backing from local businesses, with a number of dedicated sponsors supporting the club both on and off the pitch as it continues to grow.

Councillor Dave Chapman, Chair of the Town Council’s Assets Management Committee, said: “We’re extremely proud to see Hailsham Town FC Women thriving at The Beaconsfield, one of the Town Council’s key sporting facilities. The team’s success demonstrates the importance of investing in quality community sports venues that provide opportunities for people of all ages to participate, develop their talents and represent Hailsham with pride.”

He added: “Women’s football continues to go from strength to strength nationally, and it’s fantastic to see that reflected here in Hailsham. The team’s achievements, combined with its commitment to welcoming new players and engaging with the local community, make it an excellent ambassador for the town.”

The Town Mayor, Councillor Chris Bryant, praised the team’s achievements and the positive impact they are having on women’s sport in the local area: “Hailsham Town FC Women are an inspiration to so many young girls who aspire to play football. Their success shows what can be achieved through determination, teamwork and dedication, and they have become outstanding role models both on and off the pitch.”

He added: “As a Town Council, we’re committed to celebrating the individuals, clubs and organisations that enrich community life, and Hailsham Town FC Women have certainly earned that recognition. I wish the team every success in the Premier Division and hope their achievements encourage even more women and girls to take up the sport and enjoy everything football has to offer.”

The players have set incredibly high standards for themselves, and everything they’ve achieved has come through hard work, commitment and a real desire to improve together.”
