Hailsham Town Council is inviting residents and visitors to rediscover the Hailsham Street Market as it returns to its traditional home in Vicarage Field later this month.
Taking place on Friday 31 July from 9.30am to 1.30pm, the market marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter, bringing a vibrant mix of artisan food, handmade crafts, gifts and independent traders back to the centre of town.
Following a successful trial period at Blackman’s Yard, the decision to relocate the market was made after extensive feedback from traders, shoppers and local residents, who overwhelmingly supported a return to Vicarage Field. The market will now take place on the last Friday of each month during the market season (March to September), helping to create a regular destination for shoppers and visitors alike.
The Town Council hopes the market will continue to strengthen the local economy by supporting independent businesses, increasing town centre footfall and encouraging residents to shop locally.
Visitors to the opening market can browse an impressive selection of stalls offering everything from artisan food and fresh flowers to handmade gifts, jewellery, clothing and homeware.

Markets play an important role in bringing people into the town centre, supporting local enterprise and creating a lively atmosphere that benefits both traders and neighbouring businesses.”
“The response from traders has been extremely positive, with pitches being booked quickly and a fantastic variety of stalls confirmed. We hope residents will come along, support our independent businesses and enjoy everything the market has to offer.”
The move back to Vicarage Field follows a review of the market trials held at Blackman’s Yard over recent months. While the trial events demonstrated the continued popularity of the market, feedback consistently highlighted the advantages of holding it in a more prominent town centre location with greater visibility and accessibility.
Councillor Anne Marie Ricketts, Chair of the Town Council’s Communities Committee, said: “The Street Market has always been about much more than shopping. It brings people together, showcases the talent of local traders and adds to the vibrancy of our town centre. Returning to Vicarage Field gives the market the visibility and accessibility it deserves, and we’re looking forward to welcoming both familiar faces and first-time visitors.”

The upcoming markets scheduled for July, August and September are now fully booked. However, the Town Council is keen to hear from additional traders interested in taking part in future markets commencing in March next year. With strong demand already being seen, new stallholders are encouraged to register their interest early.
