Hailsham Town Council will join residents, veterans and members of the Royal British Legion in marking Armed Forces Day with a special civic service at the Hailsham War Memorial on Sunday 28th June, commencing at 10.45am.

The community is warmly invited to attend the service and stand together in recognition of the dedication, bravery and sacrifice of the Armed Forces community.

The service will include prayers, wreath-laying and a period of reflection, paying tribute to serving personnel, veterans, service families and cadets, and recognising the important contribution they make in protecting and supporting the nation.

Armed Forces Day is observed across the United Kingdom each year in late June, offering communities the opportunity to show their appreciation for the men and women who serve, or who have served, in the British Armed Forces.

This year’s national Armed Forces Day will be officially marked on Saturday 27th June, forming the culmination of Armed Forces Week, which begins on Monday 22nd June. Throughout the week, communities across the country will take part in a range of events, including flag-raising ceremonies, educational activities and local initiatives, all designed to recognise the invaluable service and commitment of the Armed Forces both in the UK and overseas.

Hailsham’s commemorative service on Sunday 28th June will form part of these nationwide events, providing an opportunity for residents of all ages to come together in remembrance, gratitude and support for those who serve, and those who have served, our country.

The Mayor of Hailsham, Cllr Chris Bryant, said: “Armed Forces Day provides an important opportunity for communities to come together and recognise the courage, professionalism and dedication of the men and women who serve our country. The Royal British Legion’s service at the Hailsham War Memorial will not only honour serving personnel, but also pay tribute to veterans and the families whose support and sacrifices are so often made behind the scenes.”

“We owe an enormous debt of gratitude to all members of the Armed Forces community, past and present, and I encourage residents of all ages to attend the service and show their appreciation.”
