With less than a week to go until the rescheduled Hailsham Community Run on Sunday 12 July, organisers are reminding residents that there is still time to register and take part in one of the town’s biggest community events of the year.
As last-minute preparations gather pace, local people are also being encouraged to show their support by turning out along the route and creating a welcoming atmosphere for participants of all ages and abilities.
Since its launch, the Hailsham Community Run has grown steadily in popularity and is now firmly established as a highlight of the town’s events calendar. Organisers are hoping for another strong turnout this year, both from runners and from spectators who can help make the occasion a memorable experience for everyone involved.
Demand for places has been exceptionally high in recent years, with registrations reaching capacity before the event date. A similar level of interest is anticipated this year, and anyone wishing to participate is advised to secure a place as soon as possible.
The event caters for a wide range of participants, from seasoned runners seeking a challenge to beginners looking to complete their first organised event. Walkers, families and community groups are also welcome, reflecting the inclusive nature of the run.
Online registration remains open at: https://register.enthuse.com/ps/event/HailshamCommunityRun2026/
The continued success of the event is supported by significant investment from Hailsham Town Council, which has allocated £6,000 towards this year’s run. The funding helps cover key event costs, including participant medals, accessibility provisions, route signage and volunteer support. Additional support is being provided by local businesses and organisations through sponsorship and community partnerships.
The event will once again be delivered in partnership with Sport Systems Ltd, which will oversee race operations and timing on the day.
Karen Nicholls, Inclusivity Lead for the project, said: “One of the strengths of the Community Run is that it creates an opportunity for everyone to get involved. We’ve worked hard to ensure that the event is accessible and welcoming, regardless of age, fitness level or personal circumstances. Whether someone is running, walking or simply taking part for fun, we want them to feel part of the occasion.”
Project Lead Mary Laxton highlighted the important role played by spectators: “The encouragement participants receive from people standing along the route cannot be underestimated. A few words of support, applause or a friendly cheer can provide a real boost, particularly during the more challenging sections of the course. We’d love to see residents come together and help create a fantastic atmosphere across the town.”
Project Co-organiser Colin Mitchell added: “The Community Run showcases the very best of Hailsham. It’s not only about physical activity and personal achievement, but also about community pride and people supporting one another. We hope residents will take the opportunity to come out, enjoy the occasion and help make this year’s event the most successful yet.”
Residents are advised that temporary road closures will be necessary on the day of the event. Hailsham High Street will be closed between 9am and 1pm, during which time on-street parking will not be available. Alternative long-stay parking can be found in South Road, Victoria Road and Vicarage Lane car parks.
Rolling road closures around the town centre will also be implemented, kindly managed by 4×4 Assist. These arrangements are designed to ensure the safety of participants while allowing spectators to enjoy the event from a variety of viewing points along the route.
