Hailsham Town Council is pleased to announce the completion of the latest stage of improvement works at its Market Street office building, The Inglenook. The rear exterior has now been fully repainted, complementing the recent refurbishment of the front of the building and the installation of updated signage. These enhancements have breathed new life into the historic Grade II listed building, giving it a welcoming and professional presence in the town centre.

The exterior improvements follow an extensive programme of refurbishment and electrical works carried out over the past year. The offices reopened to the public in June 2025, marking the successful completion of a project that began in July 2024.

Alongside the rewire, the building has benefitted from a number of important upgrades, including:

  • New fire doors to enhance safety standards

  • Complete interior redecoration with modern finishes

  • New carpets and office furniture

  • A redesigned, more accessible reception area

Operations and Facilities Manager Tony Lee said: “We’re extremely pleased with the transformation of the Town Council offices over the past year. The improvements have created a more comfortable and professional environment, helping us serve the public more efficiently. The newly refreshed exterior ensures that the building reflects the pride and care we take in maintaining it.”

Town Clerk John Harrison added: “With the repainting now complete, The Inglenook looks better than ever. We are committed to ongoing improvements that both enhance service for the community and honour the historic character of this treasured building.”

The Council’s public reception continues to host its resident and visitor information point, offering a wide selection of leaflets, brochures and guides covering local events, attractions, council and community services, safety advice, consumer information and public transport – including bus timetables. Visitors can also view a new digital display screen highlighting local events and community notices.

The public enquiries desk and reception at Market Street are open Monday to Friday, 9am-4pm, welcoming residents seeking assistance with Council services or local information.
