The James West Community Centre has undergone another significant improvement, with the installation of a modern lighting system in its main hall. This latest enhancement builds on a series of upgrades completed over the past year, further improving the facility for community use.
The new lighting allows hall users to adjust both the selection of lights and their brightness levels, offering greater control over the atmosphere. This added flexibility makes the space even more adaptable for a wide variety of activities, from sports sessions to social events.
Hailsham Town Council is encouraging residents, clubs and local organisations to take advantage of the Centre, which continues to grow as one of the town’s most versatile and welcoming venues. With a busy schedule of regular activities and ongoing improvements, it provides an ideal setting for events, classes, meetings and celebrations of all kinds.
Situated on Brunel Drive, the Centre is already a thriving community hub. Regular users include Hailsham Table Tennis Club, Monday Youth Hub, Hailsham Netball Club, Hailsham Voices Community Pop Choir, Hailsham U3A, Yoga with Dawn and PW Performers. The venue also hosts art workshops, tap dancing classes and meetings for groups such as DISC Dementia Support, the Royal British Legion, the East Sussex Seniors’ Association and the Hailsham Parkinson’s Society.
Recent upgrades have been designed to ensure the Centre remains modern, comfortable and suitable for a wide range of uses. These include improved acoustics in meeting rooms, new projection facilities, additional foyer seating, energy-efficient car park lighting and the installation of a vending machine offering refreshments. The main hall also accommodates sports such as netball and pickleball.
Further enhancements are currently underway, including new external signage and continued interior redecoration, aimed at making the venue even more attractive to potential hirers.
Tony Lee, Operations and Facilities Manager at the Town Council, highlighted the Centre’s growing appeal: “The James West Community Centre is an excellent choice for anyone looking to host a class, run a group or organise an event. It’s great to see such strong community use already, and we’re keen for even more people to discover what’s on offer.”
“From fitness sessions and creative workshops to family celebrations and community gatherings, the Centre caters for a wide range of needs. Its flexibility makes it suitable for both large and small events, and we encourage local people to make the most of it.”
The Centre offers a range of well-equipped spaces, including a large main hall measuring 18m by 11.7m, capable of seating up to 200 guests. There are also two meeting rooms, a modern kitchen, storage areas, changing facilities, toilets and a built-in PA system.
These features make the venue ideal for everything from exercise classes and toddler groups to craft fairs, parties, weddings and children’s events, with plenty of room for activities and equipment such as bouncy castles.
