The Mayor of Hailsham has called on everyone to continue the battle against Coronavirus infection spread as the lockdown period is extended.
In his weekly message to residents, Town Mayor Cllr Paul Holbrook thanks the public for staying at home and assures people that the Town Council is continuing to support the community during the public health crisis:
“It is disappointing that the lockdown period in defence against Covid-19 has had to be extended. Without a doubt, this will only add to the difficulties and setbacks so many of us are currently facing on a daily basis. Nevertheless, we must be resolute and determined – and continue to prevent the spread of the virus as instructed by Public Health England and other agencies.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for making it through another tough week under the ‘Stay At Home’ order. I’m proud of the Hailsham community for persevering and doing their part to prevent the spread of the virus by staying at home.
Have you made a difference by doing so? Absolutely! You have helped slow the spread of Covid-19 and you have continued to show true spirit by staying at home and supporting each other with practicality and kindness. Thank you.
I’ve also noticed a decrease in the number of people flouting social distancing and lockdown restrictions locally, which is excellent news all round. However, I should reiterate the need to isolate during the Covid-19 pandemic and continue to stay at home until such restrictions are lifted. That’s the single most important thing you can do to protect yourself and your loved ones.
Whilst we are seeing progress in the fight against this dreadful pandemic, we are not yet on the other side.
These are incredibly challenging times for everyone in Hailsham. Whether it is members of the community affected by Covid-19 or those who are classified as vulnerable to the virus – or whether it’s NHS staff, emergency services, carers or other key personnel working round the clock to save lives, to help keep our community functioning, safe and well.
Regarding your Town Council, I’d also like to assure residents that, although our offices in Market Street are currently closed to the public, staff are working remotely where possible to keep some services running and the main phone line open during office hours (9am-4pm, Monday to Friday – except public holidays).
We are continually monitoring developments concerning Covid-19 very closely in line with guidance from Public Health England, and many of the Council’s services and facilities will remain closed or open with restrictions until the current lockdown is lifted.
This is a very challenging time for us all and we are trying to balance the public’s access to required services and properties with the need to promote public safety by reducing social interaction, which can spread the Coronavirus.
Residents are encouraged to follow the Town Council social media pages during the public health emergency, and regularly check our website (www.hailsham-tc.gov.uk) for updates on Council services, facilities, meetings and other information.
It only remains for me to repeat my thanks and good wishes to the people of Hailsham and on behalf of the community to all the front line key workers – for all those individuals, community groups and volunteers who provide for our needs and help to protect us during this difficult time. Thank you for everything you are doing. Hailsham has a truly amazing community spirit of which I am extremely proud.”
