A total of £1,415 was raised at the Hailsham Memorial Institute (HMI) last weekend for the charity Shelter, at a special fundraising event attended by the Town Mayor.
A quiz night, darts competition and grand raffle were organised by club members Steven Archer and Barry Carpenter, who themselves will both be competing in the London Marathon on Sunday [2nd October] in aid of the charity.
Mayor Cllr Paul Holbrook, who was on hand to present the prizes to the winning darts players on Saturday said: “Shelter’s work to tackle the housing emergency and provide practical support and advice to people, is essential. The Shelter charity cannot continue to do this without the amazing support of fundraising individuals such as Barry and Steven, who put a lot of thought and effort into their fundraising activities recently.”
“I’m absolutely delighted to have been invited to present awards to winners of the darts competition last weekend, and thanks must go to the fundraising event organisers for coming up with so many brilliant fundraising initiatives, money raised from which will which help the Shelter charity support anybody facing a housing emergency during the cost-of-living crisis.”
“Thank you to everyone who took part in the event and to those who sponsored the various activities along the way. The incredible effort from all involved is certainly something to be celebrated and I wish Barry and Steven every success in the London Marathon this Sunday!”
Fundraising event co-organiser Barry Carpenter commented: “I am delighted at the way local people have helped contribute both by donating prizes and attending our events. Special thanks have to go to local companies HD Building & Carpentry and 847 Taxis, who sponsored our events alongside Target Darts who provided lots of raffle prizes.”
“I also need to thank the Hailsham Memorial Institute club itself for allowing us to host our events there and also making a donation to our fundraising over the weekend” added co-organiser Steven Archer. “At this time when the cost of living crisis is causing more and more people to struggle with housing and living costs, every penny that was raised is going to help and I am grateful to everybody for their support and attendance.”
