The Mayor of Hailsham, Councillor Chris Bryant, will attend the Hailsham Choral Society’s annual Spring Concert this April and is encouraging residents to support the event by marking the date in their diaries.
The concert will take place on Sunday 26th April at 7.30pm at St Saviour’s Church, South Street, Eastbourne, and promises to be one of the highlights of the local musical calendar.
This year’s performance will feature Edward Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius, widely regarded as one of the composer’s greatest and most powerful works. The performance will bring together an impressive collaboration of musicians and singers, including the Eastbourne Symphony Orchestra, ES Chorus, Noteworthy Voices and singers from several other choirs.
Conducting the concert will be Graham Jones, with Lisa Wigmore (leader) and soloists Rebecca Hughes, Andrew Mackenzie-Wicks and Josik Kotz.
Town Mayor Cllr Chris Bryant praised the work of the choir and highlighted the importance of supporting the arts in the local community:
“Hailsham Choral Society makes a tremendous cultural contribution to our community and I am very much looking forward to attending this year’s Spring Concert. Events like this showcase the remarkable musical talent we are fortunate to have locally and provide an opportunity for residents to enjoy high-quality performances close to home.”
“Elgar – Dream of Gerontius promises to be a very special evening with such a large and talented group of performers coming together. I would encourage anyone with an interest in music, whether they are regular concertgoers or simply curious to experience something new, to come along and support the choir and all those involved in the performance.”
“Community organisations like Hailsham Choral Society play a vital role in enriching the cultural life of our area, bringing people together through music and providing opportunities for performers and audiences alike. I am certain this concert will be an enjoyable and memorable occasion for everyone attending.”
Tickets for the concert are £18 per adult in advance (£20 on the door), with under-16s admitted at half price. Tickets can be purchased online via WeGotTickets or on the door, subject to availability.
Hailsham Choral Society is a thriving choir of more than 60 members and presents a varied programme of music throughout the year. Its repertoire ranges from classical choral works to lighter and popular pieces, including music by composers such as Bach, Rossini and Gershwin, as well as selections from well-known musicals.
The Society performs regularly in both Hailsham and Eastbourne, with several concerts held each year, including its popular annual Christmas concert.
In addition to its performances, the choir regularly works with professional soloists and orchestras and is currently welcoming new members. Weekly rehearsals take place on Thursday evenings at the Hailsham Civic Community Hall, and the Society also organises a range of social activities including music workshops, coffee mornings and quizzes.
