Maurice Thornton Playing Field Funfair Cancelled

Hailsham Town Council has announced that the funfair scheduled to take place at Maurice Thornton Playing Field from Monday 17 August to Monday 24 August has been cancelled.

The event had been due to take place on Town Council-maintained land at Maurice Thornton Playing Field, off Marshfoot Lane, following a request from Shayler’s Showtime Amusements earlier this year. Permission for the event was granted by the Town Council’s Assets Management Committee in April.

The planned funfair was set to feature a selection of large rides, fun houses, stalls and roundabouts, providing entertainment for local residents and visitors during the summer holidays.

However, the organisers have now confirmed that the funfair will not go ahead due to ill health.

Tony Lee, Operations and Facilities Manager at Hailsham Town Council, said: “We are sorry to confirm that the planned funfair at Maurice Thornton Playing Field has had to be cancelled due to ill health. We appreciate that local residents and families may have been looking forward to the event and understand that this will be disappointing news.”

“The Town Council would like to thank residents for their understanding and wish the organisers well at this difficult time.”

Councillor Anne Marie Ricketts, Chair of the Town Council’s Communities Committee, said: “We recognise that the cancellation will be disappointing for those who were hoping to enjoy the funfair during the summer holidays. However, the decision has been made due to circumstances beyond the organisers’ control.”
