Local Businesses Encouraged to Participate in Annual Christmas Window Display Competition

Community

Hailsham Town Council’s Communities Committee is getting into the festive spirit once again, with exciting plans for a range of seasonal events in the lead-up to Christmas. As part of the town’s celebrations, local businesses are being encouraged to take part in this year’s Best Shop Window Christmas Display Competition, helping to make Hailsham look its festive best this December.

Organised by the Communities Committee, the competition will judge displays on a variety of festive criteria, including overall impression and visual impact, creativity and originality and innovative use of a Christmas theme.

All traders across Hailsham – not just those in the town centre – are invited to take part by creating bright, decorative and eye-catching window displays. No formal entry is required, as all businesses with festive displays will automatically be included in the judging process, which will take place incognito in mid-December.

Communities Committee Chair Cllr Anne Marie Ricketts said: “The increase in town centre retailers setting up festive window displays, together with the high standards they demonstrated, has made it extremely difficult to pick out the winners in previous years. I hope as many people as possible will visit our town centre to shop for Christmas this year, and I encourage local businesses to pull out all the stops in this fun and festive competition to help us make our town even more attractive this December.”

Last year’s winner, Millie’s Boutique, located in Hailsham High Street, impressed judges with an elegant Christmas party-themed display that delighted passers-by and earned them the coveted Best Shop Window Christmas Display Award.

The announcement of this year’s competition comes ahead of a wider campaign by the Town Council to promote the town centre and encourage residents to carry out their Christmas shopping locally – supporting Hailsham’s businesses and boosting the local economy.

Cllr Ricketts added: “With the Christmas season just weeks away, the countdown to the festive celebrations is officially underway. The Town Council would like to take this opportunity to remind residents and visitors alike that Hailsham is the perfect place to shop, socialise and enjoy everything the season has to offer.”

“Our town offers a fantastic range of shops, independent retailers and High Street favourites, all ready to help make Christmas 2025 truly special. We encourage everyone to shop locally and support our traders, as the strength of Hailsham’s businesses is at the heart of our community. Visitors from outside the town are also warmly welcomed to explore what Hailsham has to offer.”
