Just a Few Days Left to Have Your Say on the Future of Women’s Sport in Hailsham

Hailsham Town Council is urging residents to take part in its survey on women’s and girls’ sport, with just a few days remaining before the survey closes at the end of September.

The Council is keen to hear from residents across Hailsham and is encouraging as many people as possible to take a few minutes to share their views before the deadline.

The survey is open to everyone, whether you currently participate in sport, volunteer with a club, support a local team, have children involved in sporting activities, or simply have an interest in local sport and recreation.

Residents are being asked to share their experiences and views on:

• The availability and quality of local sports facilities
• The range of local teams, clubs and sporting opportunities
• What could be improved in the future
• Barriers preventing women and girls from taking part
• Issues including cost, accessibility, confidence and awareness of opportunities

The survey forms part of the Town Council’s wider campaign celebrating women and girls in sport across Hailsham, which has highlighted the achievements of local clubs and teams including Hailsham Town FC Women, Hailsham Cricket Club’s Women’s Roses, Hailsham Tennis Club and Hailsham Bowling Club.

Town Mayor, Councillor Chris Bryant, said: “Time is running out for residents to make their voices heard, and I would encourage everyone who has not yet completed our survey to do so before the end of September.”

“We want to know what people think about the sporting opportunities available to women and girls in Hailsham, as well as what might be preventing some people from getting involved.”

“You don’t have to be a sports player to take part. Your experiences, observations and ideas are all relevant, and every response will help us develop a better understanding of what our community wants and needs.”

“We have some excellent clubs, teams and volunteers already supporting women’s and girls’ sport locally. This is an opportunity to look at what more could be done and how we can build on what is already happening.”

Councillor Dave Chapman, Chair of the Town Council’s Assets Management Committee, added: “There are now only a few days left to complete the survey, so we would really like to see a strong response from residents.”

“Local facilities, recreation grounds, clubs and volunteers all have an important part to play in encouraging participation. At the same time, we recognise that there can be practical or personal barriers that make it harder for some women and girls to get involved.”

“The survey gives residents a direct opportunity to tell us about those experiences and to suggest where they would like to see improvements or new opportunities. We encourage everyone to take part before the closing date.”

The Town Council will use the findings to inform future discussions with local sports clubs, partner organisations and facility providers, helping to support the continued development of sporting opportunities for women and girls of all ages and abilities.
