Hailsham Town Council has provided funding of £500 to Wealden Works, one of a number of recent grants given to local community groups and voluntary associations as part of the Council’s 2026/27 Community Grants Scheme.

A total of £9,000 has been awarded to a wide range of non-profit organisations, aimed at enhancing facilities, activities and projects that benefit the residents of Hailsham. Such funds are intended to assist organisations that rely on public donations, fundraising and volunteers to deliver valuable services to the community.

Wealden Works is a non-profit employability programme based in Heathfield and operating across the Wealden district. It helps young people aged 16 to 24 who are not in education, employment, or training (NEET) by providing career advice, life skills training and direct introductions to local businesses.

Bridging the gap between education and employment, Wealden Works partners with local businesses and key organisations within the Wealden community by offering a six-week employability course followed by four weeks of one-to-one mentoring, help with writing professional CVs, interview preparation, personal budgeting and confidence-building, as well as continued support and guidance after securing a job or college placement.

Town Mayor, Cllr Chris Bryant commented: “Wealden Works provides an essential lifeline for young people who need that extra bit of guidance to find their footing in the workforce.”

“Hailsham Town Council is proud to support this invaluable programme through our Community Grants Scheme. Investing in our youth by equipping them with vital life skills, CV preparation, and confidence not only changes individual lives but strengthens the fabric of our entire community.”

“Small grants such as these are a valuable addition to this mix and can make a considerable difference to them when planning and funding a worthwhile project.”
