Hailsham Youth Service is disappointed to announce that, due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation, all services have been cancelled until further notice.

The decision, which was not made lightly, has come as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic and the most recent “delay phase” measures and social distancing advice given by Public Health England and government agencies.

The temporary closure of Hailsham Youth Service, which manages the Square Youth Café, Friday Night Project and Monday Youth Club, as well as various support services, is part of a Town Council-wide measure to combat the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus, taking into account advice to residents to avoid communal spaces and encourage social distancing.

Hailsham Youth Service will continue to operate its Sexual Health support service, although not on the usual drop-in basis – appointments must be made in advance. Youth workers will also undertake street-based detached work for the foreseeable future.

“With all the guidance from the Government now impacting in our everyday lives, we’ve put measures in place to make sure we’re protecting the health and safety of young people in Hailsham and residents at large,” said Youth Project Coordinator Andy Joyes.

“It’s crucial that we’re all following the latest health advice from the NHS and Public Health England – and it is our duty as youth workers to look after the health, safety and wellbeing of local young people who use our services and facilities, as well as our staff members.”

Town Clerk John Harrison commented: “We are monitoring developments concerning the Coronavirus very closely, in line with guidance from the Government.”

“This is a very challenging time for us all, and we are trying to balance the public’s access to required services and properties with the need to promote public safety by reducing social interaction, which can spread the Coronavirus.”

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the public for their understanding of these necessary precautions as we take every step possible to ensure their wellbeing and safety – and that of our members and staff.”
