Young people from Hailsham recently took part in an action-packed residential weekend at the PGL Centre in Windmill Hill, organised by Hailsham Youth Service, offering participants an exciting opportunity to challenge themselves, build friendships and develop valuable life skills.
A group of young people made the most of their time at the centre from Friday 10th to Sunday 12th April, immersing themselves in a wide variety of outdoor and adventure-based activities. Over the course of the weekend, they tackled climbing walls and challenge courses, soared along the zip wire and tested their nerve with the Giant Swing. Alongside the physical activities, participants also engaged in problem-solving tasks and team-building exercises designed to strengthen communication, resilience and cooperation.
“The PGL weekend provided far more than just recreation,” said Youth Service Manager Andy Joyes. “For many attendees, it was an opportunity to step outside their comfort zones and confront personal fears in a supportive and encouraging environment. Whether it was overcoming a fear of heights, learning to trust teammates, or persevering through unfamiliar challenges, young people returned home with a strong sense of achievement and increased self-confidence.”
“The residential setting also allowed participants to develop independence, social skills and lasting friendships, as they shared experiences and supported one another throughout the weekend.”
Communities Committee Chair, Cllr Anne Marie Ricketts, praised the organisation of the trip: “I understand that the young people who attended the PGL Activity Weekend enjoyed it tremendously. As with all outings Hailsham Youth Service organises, staff members were present at all times to ensure their safety and well-being. It was particularly rewarding to hear that so many participants overcame their fears and accomplished things they may not have thought possible.”
“Young people always look forward to the various outings and activities organised by Hailsham Youth Service. It is clear they are enthusiastic about the opportunities being offered by our dedicated youth project team.”
Cllr Ricketts added: “It is a fantastic achievement that the Town Council, Hailsham Youth Service and their partners continue to work collaboratively to provide such engaging and enriching activities. These experiences are invaluable in supporting the personal development and well-being of our young people.”
The next Windmill Hill PGL Activity Weekend is scheduled to take place in the spring of next year.
