Hailsham Town Council is preparing to welcome shoppers, residents and visitors to the next Hailsham Street Market, as the popular community event returns to its long-standing home in Vicarage Field.
Taking place this Friday [31 July], from 9.30am to 1.30pm, the market marks the start of a renewed chapter for one of Hailsham’s best-loved attractions. Returning to its traditional town centre location, the market will once again provide a showcase for local businesses, artisan producers, makers and independent retailers, while creating a lively destination for shoppers.
Following a successful programme of trial markets at Blackman’s Yard, the Town Council reviewed feedback from traders, visitors and residents before deciding to relocate the event back to Vicarage Field. The market will now be held on the last Friday of each month during the market season (March to September), helping to establish a regular shopping event in the heart of the town.
Visitors can expect a wide variety of stalls featuring artisan food, freshly baked goods, flowers, gifts, jewellery, clothing, crafts, homeware and locally produced products.
Tony Lee, Operations and Facilities Manager at Hailsham Town Council, said: “We’re excited to see the market back in Vicarage Field, where it has always enjoyed a strong presence in the town centre. The level of interest from traders has been outstanding, with pitches filling quickly, and we’re looking forward to welcoming shoppers to what promises to be a fantastic day of local shopping, great food and community spirit.”
“Markets like this play an important role in supporting independent businesses and encouraging people to spend time in the town centre. Whether you’re looking for fresh produce, handmade gifts or simply want to enjoy the atmosphere, there will be something for everyone.”
Councillor Anne Marie Ricketts, Chair of the Town Council’s Communities Committee, said: “Bringing the Street Market back to Vicarage Field is about giving local traders the best possible opportunity to succeed while creating a vibrant focal point for the town. It provides a welcoming space where people can shop locally, meet friends and discover the fantastic range of independent businesses we have in and around Hailsham.”
“We’re delighted that the response has been so positive, with all available pitches for this season now fully booked. That level of support demonstrates the appetite for a thriving town centre market, and we look forward to building on that success in the years ahead.”
The Town Council hopes the market will continue to attract visitors into the town centre, complement existing High Street businesses and provide a valuable platform for local entrepreneurs and small businesses.
Although the July, August and September markets are now fully booked, traders interested in taking part when the market returns next March are encouraged to register their interest as early as possible due to increasing demand.
