Hailsham Street Market Now Open for 2020

A regular street market selling locally produced items and unique gifts has re-opened for the New Year following a short break after the festive period and is offering free pitch hire for traders from January through to March.

Hailsham Street Market stalls are setting up pitch in Vicarage Field from 8.30am to 1.30pm every Saturday from 4^th January and items on sale include fresh fruit and vegetables, sausages, crafts and jewellery, jams and chutneys, confectionery and more.

Some of the local producers operating at the new market already sell goods in other local markets in the south east.

The continuation of the Hailsham Street Market, which was launched in August 2013, is just one of many projects being carried out by the Town Council’s Communities Committee, aimed at improving retail opportunities locally and increasing footfall within the town.

Furthermore, the Communities Committee has recently agreed to reduce the cost of having a market stall from £25 to £15 for traders from April through to December, in order to increase pitch take-up at the markets. However, there will be no further concessions except two weeks free market stall hire for new traders.

“I’m delighted that the street market is now open for 2020,” said Deputy Town Clerk & Business Enterprise Manager Mickey Caira. “By supporting local producers, growers, suppliers and offering them the opportunity to sell locally – markets are an ideal way of showcasing the diverse range of products available in Hailsham and I’d encourage people to come down to Vicarage Field and support independent trade.”
