Hailsham Town Council is looking forward to welcoming the community to the next Hailsham Street Market, with the popular monthly event continuing in its established town-centre setting at Vicarage Field.

The next market will take place on Friday 28 August, from 9.30am to 1.30pm, bringing together a diverse selection of local traders, independent businesses, producers and makers for a day of shopping, browsing and community activity.

After a successful series of trial markets at Blackman’s Yard, the Town Council considered feedback from traders, residents and visitors before taking the decision to return the market to Vicarage Field. The Street Market now takes place on the last Friday of each month throughout the market season, from March to September, providing a regular opportunity for people to shop locally and enjoy the town centre.

The market will feature a broad range of products, with stalls expected to include artisan foods, freshly baked treats, flowers, gifts, jewellery, clothing, handmade crafts, homeware and other locally produced goods.

Tony Lee, Operations and Facilities Manager at Hailsham Town Council, said: “The return to Vicarage Field has given the market a real sense of place, putting it once again at the heart of Hailsham’s town-centre activity. We’ve been very pleased with the response from traders, and the strong demand for pitches reflects the enthusiasm for a regular market in the town.”

“For visitors, it’s a chance to discover something different, support small businesses and enjoy a relaxed morning in the town centre. With such a varied selection of traders taking part, we’re expecting another busy and enjoyable market.”

Councillor Anne Marie Ricketts, Chair of the Town Council’s Communities Committee, said: “A thriving street market can make a real contribution to the character and vitality of a town, and we’re pleased to see Hailsham’s market continuing to develop. Returning to Vicarage Field gives traders a prominent and accessible location while bringing additional activity into the town centre.”

“The interest we’ve received from stallholders has been particularly encouraging, and with the majority of pitches for this season already taken, it’s clear there is a strong appetite for the market. We hope residents and visitors will come along, explore the stalls and show their support for the independent businesses taking part.”

The Town Council hopes the monthly event will continue to bring people into Hailsham town centre, complement existing High Street businesses and give local entrepreneurs and small businesses an opportunity to reach new customers.

Traders who would like to participate in future markets are encouraged to register their interest as soon as possible, with demand for pitches continuing to increase.
