The 2026 Hailsham Community Run has been rescheduled to Sunday 12th July, due to ongoing road repairs and emergency works in Station Road.

Originally due to take place on Sunday 17th May, organisers were forced to postpone the event at the last minute after it became clear that the repair work on Station Road would not be completed in time. The road remains closed and is expected to reopen soon, with a substantial excavation – approximately five feet deep across both sides of the carriageway – currently in place.

The closure also prevented the use of the planned diversion route via Hailsham High Street, which forms the start and finish area of the event. Combined with other ongoing roadworks in the area, organisers said it was impossible to deliver the run safely without access to the High Street closure.

Project Lead Mary Laxton said: “Having to postpone the event at such short notice was an incredibly difficult decision and one we certainly did not take lightly. We know how much preparation goes into the day for runners, volunteers, sponsors and community groups, and we completely understand the disappointment caused. However, safety and welfare had to come first.”

“We’re extremely grateful for the patience and support everyone has shown, and we’re now fully focused on making the event on 12th July a fantastic occasion for the whole town.”

Co-organiser Colin Mitchell added: “The response from the community since the postponement has been hugely encouraging. Events like this rely on teamwork and local spirit, and that’s exactly what Hailsham continues to show. We’d encourage as many residents as possible to come out on Sunday 12th July, support the runners and help create the brilliant atmosphere that has made the Hailsham Run such a popular annual event.”

Now in its fourth year, the Hailsham Community Run has quickly established itself as one of the town’s most anticipated annual events, attracting growing numbers of participants and spectators each year.

Organisers are encouraging residents to line the streets on Sunday and cheer runners along the route, helping create an atmosphere that inspires participants from start to finish.

The event continues to benefit from strong local support. Hailsham Town Council has contributed £6,000 towards this year’s event, helping fund essential elements including medals, accessibility measures, signage and volunteer support. A wide range of local businesses are also supporting the run through sponsorship and involvement.

The day itself will once again be delivered in partnership with Sport Systems Ltd, who will oversee the technical delivery of the race to ensure a safe and smooth experience for all participants.

Residents are advised that Hailsham High Street will be closed from 9am to 1pm on Sunday 12th July, with no on-street parking available during that period.

Long-stay parking will be available in South Road, Victoria Road and Vicarage Lane.

Rolling road closures around the town centre will also be managed throughout the event by volunteers to ensure the safety of participants and spectators.

Organisers are urging local schools, charities, sports clubs, gym members and businesses to sign up teams, challenge rival departments or use the event as a fundraising opportunity. Entering as a group not only builds team spirit but helps showcase the strength and unity of the local community.
