The Deputy Mayor of Hailsham, Councillor Colin Mitchell, joined music enthusiasts at the Hailsham Choral Society annual Autumn Concert, held at St Saviour’s Church in Eastbourne on Saturday [15 November].
The concert, titled Hailsham Choral and Hailsham Sinfonia in Eastbourne, featured Mozart’s Solemn Vespers which includes the well-known Laudate Dominum, Haydn’s Little Organ Mass and two Bach motets, Jesu, meine Freude and Lobet den Herrn.
Conducted by the Society’s Musical Director, Jozik Kotz, the event showcased performances by soprano Edie Behr, Hailsham Sinfonia Leader Jonathan Truscott and organist Colin Hughes, and presented a dynamic programme of music.
Councillor Mitchell praised the evening’s performance and the commitment of all those involved. He said, “I thoroughly enjoyed the concert and am extremely grateful to Hailsham Choral Society and Hailsham Sinfonia, as well as conductor Jozik Kotz and all the choristers for such a wonderful performance.”
“Hailsham Choral Society consistently delivers outstanding events and we are fortunate to have such a vibrant local choral group that contributes so much to the arts in our community. I encourage anyone with an interest in singing to consider joining the Society.”
Hailsham Choral Society is a long-established and ambitious choir of around 70 singers, based locally and performing a broad selection of classical and choral repertoire along with more popular works. Concerts are held throughout the year in Hailsham or Eastbourne, with regular performances in November, at Christmas, in spring and in early summer.
Many concerts feature professional soloists and orchestral accompaniment, while others present more informal programmes of lighter music.
The Society is currently welcoming new singers of all voice parts and regularly organises workshops, coffee mornings and other social events. Rehearsals take place on Thursday evenings at Hailsham Civic Community Hall and new members are always invited to attend.
