I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the people of Hailsham a very merry Christmas and a happy, healthy, safe and prosperous New Year.
As 2015 comes to an end and we busy ourselves with winter festivities and plans for 2016, it’s worth taking a moment to look back on the achievements of the past year.
I am very pleased and, indeed, honoured to have been elected to serve as Mayor of Hailsham and to carry out many important duties. The last seven months have been a real whirlwind of activity and opportunities thanks to the people around me and the people I have met at civic engagements.
It has been a privilege to meet many people across all walks of life, whether they be in the community, voluntary, business, educational or political sector and the one thing that has united these people is a common interest in Hailsham’s future as a stronger and more attractive town.
I would like to thank the Town Clerk, John Harrison and his staff, who handled the results of the local elections in May and the new councillors who needed to be informed of their roles. During the year the staff dealt admirably with activities and the markets run by the Town Council, especially the recent Christmas Market which turned out to be a great success despite the wind and weather.
In closing, I’d like to emphasise that Christmas is not only a time of joy and festivity, but also the time of year when we should look out for those who are alone, vulnerable, or without close family ties.
In wishing you a happy Christmas on behalf of myself and my wife the Mayoress Sandra, I trust you will pause briefly in your own celebrations to remember those less fortunate than yourselves, donate to the local Food Bank, drive safely and continue to offer your support to local businesses.
