Celebrating Local Sporting Success: Women’s Roses Inspire Future Generations

Hailsham Town Council is continuing its campaign celebrating women’s and girls’ sport by shining a spotlight on Hailsham Cricket Club’s highly successful Women’s Roses team.

The Roses, based at the Western Road Recreation Ground, are known for their fast-growing squad and highly competitive spirit, having quickly established themselves as one of the premier women’s cricket sides in the region.

The Roses currently compete at the highest regional level in the Sussex Women’s Premier League, having earned historic promotions through dominant division performances. They are fierce competitors in the Sussex Slam (a fast-paced T20 tournament), capturing the championship title and successfully defending regional crowns against top clubs across Sussex, Surrey, Kent and Hampshire.

The team is known for explosive cricket, notably smashing a massive club-record total of 346 runs in a single 40-over innings.

The feature forms part of Hailsham Town Council’s wider campaign to celebrate the growing success of women’s and girls’ sport across the town, recognising the contribution made by local clubs, volunteers and coaches in creating opportunities for women and girls to lead active, healthy lifestyles.

Cllr Dave Chapman, Chair of the Town Council’s Assets Management Committee, said: “The success of Hailsham Cricket Club’s Women’s Roses team demonstrates just how far women’s sport has progressed in our town. The Town Council is proud to maintain facilities such as the Western Road Recreation Ground, which provide local clubs with the high-quality grounds they need to train, compete and continue inspiring the next generation of female athletes.”

By highlighting clubs like Hailsham Cricket Club and its Women’s Roses division, through our women’s and girls’ sport campaign, we hope even more women and girls get involved in sport and discover the many physical, social and wellbeing benefits it offers.”
