With the festive season fast approaching, Hailsham Town Council’s Communities Committee is preparing a programme of seasonal activities, including the annual Best Shop Window Christmas Display Competition. Local businesses are encouraged to participate and help create a festive atmosphere throughout the town this December.
Judging will focus on window displays based on several criteria: overall impression, visual impact, creativity, originality and effective use of a Christmas theme.
All businesses in Hailsham – not only those in the town centre – are invited to take part by producing eye-catching, attractive and festive window displays. No formal entry process is required; any business with a Christmas-themed display will be included in the judging, which will take place incognito in mid-December.
Communities Committee Chair, Cllr Anne Marie Ricketts, said: “Each year we see an increase in the number and quality of festive window displays, making the judging process increasingly challenging. With the pre-Christmas period approaching, we hope residents will support local shops, and we encourage businesses to participate fully in this year’s competition to help present the town at its best.”
Last year’s winner, Millie’s Boutique on Hailsham High Street, received the award for its well-presented Christmas party-themed display.
This year’s competition forms part of the Town Council’s wider campaign to promote the town centre and encourage local Christmas shopping, supporting businesses and contributing to the local economy.
Cllr Ricketts added: “With Christmas only weeks away, preparations are well underway. We want to remind residents and visitors that Hailsham offers a fantastic range of shops and services, and we encourage people to shop locally during the lead-up to Christmas.”
“The strength of our local businesses is vital to the community, and we welcome both residents and visitors to make use of what Hailsham has to offer.”
