Hailsham’s vibrant spirit is alive once again with the return of the town’s revitalised street market. Residents and visitors are warmly encouraged to come along and experience all it has to offer. The next market takes place on Friday 15 August, running from 9am to 1pm at its new location in Blackman’s Yard, located behind the Town Council offices on Market Street.

Now running on a trial basis every first and third Friday of the month until the end of August, the market has moved from its previous Saturday slot at Vicarage Field to a more accessible and flexible space owned by the Town Council. This shift marks an exciting new chapter aimed at revitalising the market and creating a vibrant, welcoming space for the whole community.

The relocation to Town Council-owned land offers far greater flexibility than before, both for traders and for the range of goods and experiences on offer. With easier logistics and fewer operational constraints, the market is better positioned to welcome a more diverse mix of stalls, reflecting the town’s growing appetite for local variety, independent businesses, and unique finds.

“This trial is about giving the market space to grow and evolve,” said Town Mayor, Cllr Chris Bryant. “We’ve listened carefully to feedback from traders and residents alike, and it’s clear there’s an appetite for more diversity in the types of stalls and a more flexible trading environment. Relocating to Blackman’s Yard and moving the market to Fridays allows us to explore these possibilities while also aligning better with the operating schedules of many regional market traders.”

Visitors to the market can expect a lively mix of fresh produce, artisan foods, handmade goods, vintage treasures, crafts, gifts, fashion and more – all offered by passionate local traders and small business owners. Whether you’re shopping for something specific, browsing for inspiration, or simply enjoying the friendly atmosphere, the market is a great way to connect with the local community while supporting independent enterprise.

To help spread the word and boost engagement, a targeted promotional campaign has been rolled out across local media and social channels, encouraging more people to visit and helping attract new stallholders with unique offerings. The early signs have been positive, with increased footfall and enthusiastic feedback from both shoppers and traders.

Following the conclusion of the trial period at the end of August, the Council will carry out a full review, taking into account visitor numbers, public feedback and trader experiences. These insights will play a key role in shaping the future format and frequency of the market.

In the meantime, your support matters. By choosing to shop at the Hailsham Street Market, you’re not only enjoying a unique shopping experience – you’re playing a part in the regeneration of a cherished community tradition.
