Residents of Hailsham are being encouraged to attend the Annual Town (Electors’) Meeting, which will take place on Wednesday 13th May at the Hailsham Civic Community Hall.
The meeting will commence at 7.30pm and will be chaired by the Town Mayor and Chairman of the Council, Councillor Chris Bryant.
The Annual Town Meeting is an important element of local democracy, providing an opportunity for registered electors to raise matters relating to the parish of Hailsham and to ask questions of their Town Council. In accordance with Schedule 12 of the Local Government Act 1972, attendees may address any issue of public concern affecting the town.
Ahead of the meeting, residents are invited to attend an informal session from 6.30pm to 7.30pm, where a number of local organisations and community groups will be hosting information stands. This will provide an opportunity to learn more about their work, speak directly with representatives, and explore ways to get involved in local initiatives.
The Town Council continues to deliver a range of services and projects aimed at supporting the community and enhancing the town. The Annual Town Meeting will provide an overview of progress made over the past year, along with updates on current initiatives and future priorities.
Corporate Services Manager Karen Giddings said the meeting is an important opportunity for engagement: “The Annual Town Meeting enables the Council to report back to residents on the work undertaken over the past year and to highlight key projects and improvements to local services.”
“It also provides a valuable opportunity for residents to share their views, raise issues of concern and contribute to shaping the Council’s priorities for the year ahead. We would encourage all those with an interest in the town to attend.”
Town Clerk John Harrison emphasised the role of the meeting in ensuring community participation: “This meeting forms a key part of the democratic process at a local level, giving residents a direct opportunity to engage with the Town Council.”
“It is an open forum in which electors can ask questions, raise concerns and put forward constructive suggestions. The Council is committed to listening to residents and working collaboratively to ensure that Hailsham continues to develop as a vibrant and inclusive community.”
Residents who wish to submit questions in advance are invited to write to the Town Clerk at: Inglenook, Market Street, Hailsham, BN27 2AE. The deadline for advance submissions is Friday 8th May.
Members of the public are also welcome to attend on the evening and raise questions during the meeting.
