Hailsham Street Market New Day and Location Trial – Free Pitches Available for Traders!

The Town Council is inviting new and returning traders to take part in its revitalised Hailsham Street Market, currently running on a trial basis on Fridays; with completely free pitches available throughout the trial period.

Whether you’re a greengrocer, butcher, baker, hot food vendor, artisan crafter, jeweller or seller of personalised gifts and accessories, the Council is keen to hear from you.

The trial markets will be held at the new location of Blackman’s Yard (behind the Town Council offices on Market Street) on Friday 1 August and Friday 15 August, from 9am to 1pm. The shift from Saturdays to Fridays, along with the relocation from Vicarage Field to this Council-owned space, forms part of an initiative to attract a broader range of stalls and breathe new life into the town’s traditional market offering.

In support of the trial, the Town Council is launching a local awareness campaign to boost footfall and encourage participation from both customers and stallholders. All traders are welcome – from food and drink to crafts, clothing, accessories, plants and more.

Tony Lee, Hailsham Town Council’s Operations & Facilities Manager, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for independent traders to get involved without the usual costs. By offering free pitches, we’re creating an open, supportive space for a real variety of stalls to flourish. Whether you’re an experienced trader or just starting out, we’d love to see you at Hailsham Street Market.”

The new location is centrally located, offering a more contained and managed environment. Hosting the market on Fridays also creates opportunities for stallholders to reach weekday shoppers, especially those who may not be available at weekends.

The trial will be closely monitored, with regular assessments based on trader feedback, visitor numbers and community response. The findings will help determine the market’s structure moving forward.
