Young People Invited to Hit the Slopes with Hailsham Youth Service

— Youth Services

Friday Night Project - open ski activities

There are still spaces available, but places are limited, so young people are encouraged to book quickly for a four-session ski lessons course at Knockhatch Ski Centre, as part of Hailsham Youth Service’s Friday Night Project (FNP) autumn activity programme.

The course costs £40 and will take place from 6pm to 7.30pm on Friday evenings:

  • Friday 9 October
  • Friday 16 October
  • Friday 23 October
  • Friday 6 November

Spaces are available, but places are limited and must be booked in advance. All four sessions must be attended. If a young person misses a session, they will not be able to continue with the course, successfully complete it or gain their certificate.

A parent or carer must attend the start of every session to sign the young person’s safety waiver. Young people cannot take part without a signed waiver.

Participants must wear long socks, full-length trousers, long sleeves and gloves. Gloves are compulsory and young people will not be able to take part without them. Young people must also know their weight and shoe size, as this information will be required at every session when equipment is allocated.

The ski course forms part of the wider Friday Night Project, delivered by Hailsham Youth Service with funding from the Town Council. The programme provides young people with regular opportunities to socialise, try new activities, develop skills and build confidence in a safe and supervised environment.

The autumn programme began in September and has already included laser tag, ten-pin bowling, activities at Knockhatch Adventure Park, a roller disco and a Youth Games Night. The programme continues through October, November and December with activities including Ringo tobogganing, pottery workshops, a Halloween party, further games and bowling sessions, and a Christmas Party.

Deputy Youth Service Manager Joel Cottingham commented: “The Friday Night Project gives young people the chance to try activities they may not otherwise have access to, while spending time with friends in a safe and supportive environment. The ski course is a fantastic opportunity to learn a new skill, challenge themselves and build confidence, and we look forward to welcoming everyone who books a place.”

“We have a varied programme planned throughout the autumn, with something to suit a range of interests, and we encourage young people and their families to take a look at what’s on offer and get involved.”

The Mayor of Hailsham, Cllr Chris Bryant, commends Hailsham Youth Service for providing young people with ample activities in a safe environment to help keep them occupied when not at school, and for the dedication and enthusiasm of the Town Council’s youth workers:

“Parents can be confident that Hailsham Youth Service provides a safe environment for our local young people, giving them opportunities to socialise and take part in various activities after school and on weekday evenings, including those activities which make up the Friday Night Project programme.”

“For 26 years, Hailsham Youth Service has improved the quality of life for local young people in the town and surrounding rural villages. Such benefits have been achieved through the integrated provision of recreation, in addition to opportunities for personal and social development, information and advice.”
