Hailsham Town Council is inviting residents to have their say on the future of women’s and girls’ sport by taking part in a new online survey launched as part of its ongoing campaign to celebrate and support female participation in sport across the town.
The survey seeks views from residents of all ages and backgrounds, whether they currently play sport or not. Feedback will help the Town Council better understand the strengths of existing sporting provision, identify any barriers to participation and explore how opportunities for women and girls can continue to develop in Hailsham.
Participants are being asked about the availability and quality of local sports facilities, whether there are enough teams and clubs, the range of sporting opportunities on offer and what improvements they would like to see in the future. The survey also asks about the challenges that may prevent women and girls from taking part in sport, such as accessibility, cost, confidence or lack of information.

The initiative forms part of the Town Council’s wider campaign highlighting the success of women’s and girls’ sport in Hailsham. Since launching in recent weeks, the campaign has celebrated the achievements of local clubs and teams, including Hailsham Town FC Women, Hailsham Cricket Club’s Women’ Roses, Hailsham Tennis Club, Hailsham Bowling Club, Hailsham Hockey Club and Hailsham Netball Club.
The campaign also recognises the vital contribution made by coaches, volunteers and community organisations, while showcasing the important role played by Town Council-maintained recreation grounds in supporting participation, health and wellbeing.
Town Mayor, Councillor Chris Bryant, said: “Women’s and girls’ sport continues to go from strength to strength, both nationally and here in Hailsham, and we want to ensure that this momentum continues. By asking residents for their views, we can gain a better understanding of what is working well, where improvements can be made and how the Town Council and its partners can continue supporting local clubs and participants.”

Councillor Dave Chapman, Chair of the Town Council’s Assets Management Committee, added: “Over recent years we’ve seen tremendous growth in women’s and girls’ sport across Hailsham, supported by dedicated volunteers, excellent local clubs and quality community facilities. However, there is always more that can be done.”
“This survey will provide valuable feedback to help us understand local priorities, identify any gaps in provision and continue improving the facilities and opportunities available. We hope as many residents as possible will take a few minutes to share their views.”
The Town Council hopes the survey findings will help inform future discussions with local sports clubs, partner organisations and facility providers, ensuring Hailsham continues to offer inclusive, accessible and high-quality sporting opportunities for women and girls of all ages and abilities.
The survey is open now and will remain available until the end of September. People are encouraged to participate and help influence the future of women’s and girls’ sport in Hailsham.
