Hailsham Town Council has awarded a £500 Community Grant to Friends of White House, helping the volunteer-led organisation continue its work supporting pupils, families and the wider school community.
The funding forms part of the Town Council’s 2026/27 Community Grants Scheme, through which £9,000 has been distributed to a range of local charities, voluntary organisations and community groups delivering projects and services that benefit Hailsham residents.
The Community Grants Scheme is designed to strengthen the voluntary sector by providing financial assistance to organisations that make a positive contribution to community life. Many of these groups depend on fundraising, donations and volunteers to sustain their activities, with Town Council grants helping them develop new initiatives, improve facilities and reach more people.
Friends of White House is a dedicated group of parents, carers and family members who work alongside White House Academy to enhance the educational experience of pupils. Throughout the year, the group organises fundraising events, family activities and community initiatives, helping to provide additional resources, equipment and opportunities that enrich school life and create lasting memories for children and their families.
Town Mayor, Councillor Chris Bryant, said: “The Friends of White House are a wonderful example of the positive difference that volunteers can make within our community. Through their fundraising events, activities and ongoing commitment, they help create opportunities that directly benefit pupils while strengthening the relationship between the school, families and the wider community.”
“The Town Council is proud to support organisations like Friends of White House through our Community Grants Scheme. While £500 may seem a modest amount, grants of this nature can make a real difference by helping community groups develop projects, purchase equipment or organise activities that might not otherwise be possible. Our voluntary organisations contribute enormously to the social fabric of Hailsham, and we remain committed to supporting the invaluable work they do for residents of all ages.”
Each year, the Community Grants Scheme provides financial assistance to local non-profit organisations whose work improves the quality of life in Hailsham. The scheme supports projects that encourage community participation, promote wellbeing, provide educational and recreational opportunities, and enhance local facilities.
