Hailsham town councillors will join residents, veterans and members of the Royal British Legion to commemorate Armed Forces Day at a special civic service taking place at the Hailsham War Memorial on Sunday 28th June from 10.45am.

Members of the public are warmly invited to attend the service and show their support for the Armed Forces community.

The event will include prayers, wreath-laying and a period of reflection in honour of the courage, dedication and sacrifice of those who serve or have served in the British Armed Forces, including serving personnel, veterans, service families and cadets.

Armed Forces Day is observed nationally each year in late June and provides an opportunity for communities across the UK to recognise and thank the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community. This year’s national Armed Forces Day will be officially marked on Saturday 27th June, with celebrations and commemorative events taking place throughout Armed Forces Week.

Beginning on Monday 22nd June, Armed Forces Week features a range of activities nationwide, including flag-raising ceremonies, educational initiatives and community events, all designed to acknowledge the invaluable contribution of the Armed Forces both at home and overseas.

Hailsham’s commemorative service forms part of these national events, offering residents an opportunity to come together in gratitude and remembrance.

The Mayor of Hailsham, Cllr Chris Bryant, said: “Armed Forces Day provides an important opportunity for communities to come together and recognise the courage, professionalism and dedication of the men and women who serve our country. The Royal British Legion’s service at the Hailsham War Memorial will not only honour serving personnel, but also pay tribute to veterans and the families whose support and sacrifices are so often made behind the scenes.

“We owe an enormous debt of gratitude to all members of the Armed Forces community, past and present, and I encourage residents of all ages to attend the service and show their appreciation.”
