Town Council to Review Market Following Trial Series

Shopping & Retail

Photk of trial Friday market at Blackman's Yard on 24 April 2026

Hailsham Town Council will now begin reviewing the outcome of its recent market trials at Blackman’s Yard following the conclusion of the final event held last Friday [29 May].

The latest market saw a steady flow of visitors throughout the morning, with shoppers able to browse a variety of stalls offering handmade crafts, artisan foods, gifts, home décor and skincare products, alongside information stands from local organisations.

The trial markets were introduced to help assess the potential for establishing a regular market at Blackman’s Yard, and the Town Council will be reviewing feedback when considering the future of the market.

Cllr Anne Marie Ricketts said: “The market trials have provided a useful opportunity to test how a regular market could work at Blackman’s Yard and to hear directly from traders and residents about their views on holding a market in this location.”

“While there is still work to do in evaluating the trials, we appreciate everyone who supported the events and took part over the past few months.”

Karen Giddings, Corporate Services Manager, added: “The trial programme has given us valuable feedback and insight as to whether it would be viable to hold a market on a regular basis at Blackmans Yard.”

Further updates will be shared by the Town Council once the review process has been completed.
