A community boxing and fitness club in Hailsham has officially opened the doors to its new premises in Station Road made possible in part by a grant of up to £15,000 from Hailsham Town Council. The funding, awarded to support rent and associated costs, has enabled the club to establish a larger, more accessible base from which to expand its vital work within the community.

More than just a place to train, the club has built a strong reputation for using boxing, fitness and education as powerful tools to promote personal development, strengthen community ties and improve both physical and mental health. Its inclusive and affordable approach ensures access for all, with a particular focus on engaging young people and those who may feel excluded from traditional fitness environments.

Run by a team of dedicated, fully qualified coaches and volunteers, the organisation has consistently demonstrated its commitment to making a positive difference in people’s lives through sport.

The club’s origins date back to the COVID-19 pandemic, when it operated from a simple outdoor field at a time of widespread uncertainty and isolation. What began as a grassroots training initiative quickly evolved into a vital community hub, offering a safe and supportive environment where both young people and adults could rebuild confidence, develop discipline and connect with others.

To meet growing demand and secure its future, the club has identified new premises at Unit 15 Station Road Industrial Estate. The site offers significantly improved space, accessibility and a central location, making it easier for local residents – particularly those relying on walking or public transport – to take part. The move will enable the club to expand its programmes, welcome more members and create a high-quality facility for the wider community.

Recognising the value of this work, the Town Council has stepped in with a grant of up to £15,000, specifically allocated to support rent and associated costs. This investment will play a crucial role in transforming the new premises into a modern, fully equipped boxing and fitness centre that is welcoming to all.

“The Town Council is proud to award this £15,000 grant to support such an inspiring and impactful organisation,” said the Town Mayor Cllr Chris Bryant, who attended the official opening of the new premises on 5 May. “From very humble beginnings during a challenging time, this club has grown into a cornerstone of the community, offering not just sport but real opportunities for personal growth, confidence-building and social connection.”

“By helping them secure and open these new premises, we are investing directly in the wellbeing of our residents, particularly young people, and ensuring that this positive work can continue to flourish and reach even more people in the years ahead.”
