Hailsham Youth Service continues to make a positive impact on young people in school years 7 to 12, providing access to a diverse programme of activities and opportunities throughout the year.

A key part of its provision is the popular Friday Night Project (FNP), delivered by Hailsham Youth Service and funded by Hailsham Town Council. The initiative works in partnership with respected local organisations including Knockhatch Adventure Park, Hailsham Community College and Freedom Leisure to provide engaging, affordable and safe recreational activities for young people on Friday evenings.

The project remains a highlight of the Youth Service’s social calendar and will continue throughout the early spring.

An exciting programme of events has been arranged for March, including a roller disco at Sussex Downs College, tennis sessions at Western Road Recreation Ground, indoor activities at Knockhatch Adventure Park, and ten-pin bowling at Freedom Leisure. The varied programme is designed to appeal to a wide range of interests while encouraging participation, physical activity and social connection.

Kerrie Potter, Youth Work Lead, said: “March and early spring for the Friday Night Project marks another season of fun and opportunity for young people in Hailsham. We aim to provide a variety of activities that not only entertain but also encourage confidence, teamwork and new skills. We’re really looking forward to welcoming young people back and seeing them get involved.”

“The Friday Night Project is about much more than just activities – it’s about creating a safe, welcoming space where young people can build friendships, try something new and feel supported by trusted adults. We know how important it is to provide positive outlets outside of school hours, and we are proud to offer a programme that helps young people grow in confidence, resilience and independence while having fun.”

Through strong local partnerships, the Friday Night Project ensures young people remain active, connected and supported in a structured and supervised environment. By offering affordable access to a range of recreational opportunities, the scheme continues to play an important role in promoting wellbeing and community engagement among Hailsham’s young people.

The Mayor of Hailsham, Cllr Chris Bryant, commends Hailsham Youth Service for providing young people with ample activities in a safe environment to help keep them occupied when not at school, and for the dedication and enthusiasm of the Town Council’s youth workers:

“Parents can be confident that Hailsham Youth Service provides a safe environment for our local young people, giving them opportunities to socialise and take part in various activities after school and on weekday evenings, including those activities which make up the Friday Night Project programme.”

“For 26 years, Hailsham Youth Service has improved the quality of life for local young people in the town and surrounding rural villages. Such benefits have been achieved through the integrated provision of recreation, in addition to opportunities for personal and social development, information and advice.”
