The James West Community Centre is set for another busy year, with increasing demand from and further improvements planned to enhance this much valued community facility.
Hailsham Town Council is encouraging residents, clubs and organisations to make full use of the Centre, which is located in Brunel Drive and continues to serve as a thriving hub for community activity. The venue already hosts a wide range of regular groups, including Hailsham Table Tennis Club, the Monday Youth Hub, Hailsham Netball Club, Hailsham Voices Community Pop Choir, Hailsham U3A, Yoga with Dawn, PW Performers and Little Kickers Football.
New activities joining the Centre include Rugby Tots, art workshops led by Lila Devaney and tap dancing classes. In addition, the Centre continues to provide a meeting space for DISC Dementia Support, the Royal British Legion, the East Sussex Seniors’ Association (ESSA) and the Hailsham Parkinson’s Society.
A programme of recent improvements has ensured that the Centre remains modern, accessible and suitable for a variety of events and activities. Enhancements include:
Acoustic wall panels in meeting rooms to improve sound quality
Drop-down projector screens for presentations and events
Additional seating in the foyer
Timer-controlled lighting in the car park to improve energy efficiency
A vending machine providing snacks and refreshments
Netball and pickleball courts in the main hall
New external signage
Repainting of the interior throughout the building
Cllr Mary Laxton, Chair of the Assets Management Committee commented: “The James West Community Centre is an ideal venue for anyone wishing to run a class, establish a community group or host a private event. It is extremely encouraging to see such high levels of use, and we would welcome enquiries from new groups and individuals who may wish to explore what the Centre has to offer.”
She added: “From sports sessions and creative workshops to wellness classes, toddler activities and private celebrations, the Centre offers a flexible and welcoming environment that can accommodate both large and small events. We are keen for local residents and organisations to take full advantage of this excellent community asset.”
The James West Community Centre offers:
A main hall measuring 18 metres by 11.7 metres, accommodating up to 200 seated guests
Two fully equipped meeting rooms
A modern kitchen and storage facilities
Changing rooms and toilet facilities
A built-in PA system
The Centre is well suited to fitness and sports classes, toddler groups, craft fairs, community meetings, private parties, wedding receptions and children’s parties. The main hall also provides ample space for activities and inflatable play equipment, including bouncy castles.
