Community

Phot of town councillors and staff at the Remembrance Day Service event held on 08/11/25

The Town Mayor, Cllr Chris Bryant, took part in this year’s Service of Remembrance at the Hailsham War Memorial on Sunday [9 November], paying tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the armed forces, as well as civilian members of Britain and the Commonwealth who lost their lives in times of conflict.

Cllr Bryant joined fellow councillors, representatives from the Armed Forces, veterans, their families and members of local organisations in observing the solemn ceremonies. The Service included the playing of the Last Post, a two-minute silence and the laying of wreaths at 11am.

The proceedings began with a parade led by the Hailsham & District Standard. Veterans, local dignitaries and members of the Hailsham Army and Air Cadets marched together to the war memorial in Vicarage Field, underscoring the town’s respect and gratitude for the fallen.

Reflecting on the occasion, Cllr Bryant said: “The Remembrance Service was an opportunity and a time for us to reflect and remember the sacrifices made both in the past and in current conflicts and thank them. It is important that as a community we continue to remember those who lost their lives for their country and the Act of Remembrance continues to be of great significance to the people of Hailsham, including the members and staff of the Town Council.”

“It is a privilege for the Town Council to have supported the Royal British Legion Hailsham & District Branch again in terms of organising this year’s Remembrance Day events – and marking the occasion. I’m glad people come along and pay their respects. Hailsham does itself incredibly proud in attending every year.”

The Town Council extends its gratitude to all who organised, attended and participated, helping to ensure that the sacrifices of those who served are remembered and honoured.
