Young people in Hailsham aged 11 to 13 can enjoy a wide range of activities on weekday afternoons throughout the summer holiday at the Square Youth Café, the Town Council’s flagship youth facility, situated at 1 Market Square.

The Square Youth Café team has organised a varied line-up of free and low cost activities designed to liven up the summer holidays, take young people on various recreational outings and encourage even more through the doors of the youth café.

Activities taking place include films, sizzling barbeques and cookery sessions where young people can learn how to prepare meal recipes.

Additionally, a variety of outings have been organised as part of the Friday Night Project, including a trip to Thorpe Park in September and two big events at Knockhatch Adventure Park this summer and autumn (21st July and 1st September – which will include go-karting, bungee-jumping, inflatable assault course, paintballing and Gladiator events.

Afternoon sessions at the Square Youth Café take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 3.15pm to 5pm. The Square Youth Cafe evening sessions are also free to enter, cater for young people aged 13 to 17 and take place Monday to Friday from 6.45pm to 9pm.

Andy Joyes, Youth Project Coordinator at the Town Council said young people have been happy with the wide range of summer activities in recent years, many of which were keenly anticipated: “We want this summer to be challenging and fun for young people and I know that those who take part in the various activities organised by the Square Youth Café and its project partners enjoy them tremendously.

Mr Joyes added: “The Square Youth Café aims to provide a service to young people regardless of background, gender or culture and they can expect a safe, supportive, fun and non– judgmental environment. All activities are supervised by staff members to ensure their safety and well-being at all times.”

Town Mayor Councillor Nigel Coltman commented: “Parents can be confident that the Square Youth Café provides a safe environment for our local young people, giving them a place to socialise in the evenings and during school holidays by organising trips away and various other leisure activities.

“The youth project team has established a successful and ongoing service for young people in Hailsham and there’s no reason for young people to find themselves bored during the summer holiday!”
