The countdown is on to Hailsham’s Children’s Market which takes place in the town centre on Saturday 25 June from 9.30am to 4pm, set to bring energy and a summer feel to Vicarage Field.

Further preparations for the event have been made by the Town Council’s Communities Committee in partnership with Hailsham Forward, and organisers are confident that it will be a great family event offering something for everyone.

The market will feature items of interest to children such as toys, crafts and confectionery, as well as the usual Saturday stalls selling a range of locally sourced food, gifts and accessories. There will also be a mouth-watering hog roast to tempt visitors and a candy floss stall.

Various activities will take place on the day for children including face painting from 11am to 3pm, balloon modelling throughout the afternoon and a special appearance from Elsie The Dalek.

Pupils from Hailsham Community College, Grovelands and Park Mead Community Primary Schools, Hellingly Primary School and White House and Marshlands Academies will have stalls providing games and activities for children raising money for the schools and a joint raffle draw.

Hailsham FM will be broadcasting the event live.

Deputy Town Mayor and chairman of the Communities Committee Councillor Amanda O’Rawe said: “Hailsham’s summer festivities get bigger and bigger every year. The turnout at the last Children’s Market was excellent and, with an impressive line-up of stalls and activities for the whole family, this year’s event is bound to get the town motivated for an amazing summer day out!”

Communities Committee vice-chairman Councillor Chriss Triandafyllou commented: “It has once again been a pleasure to work in partnership with Hailsham Forward which has always worked hard in organising our themed markets.”

“I look forward to seeing the local community go along to this year’s Children’s Market, get involved and enjoy the extravaganza.”

Hailsham Town Council is also organising an additional Summer Food & Drink Market which will take place in the town centre on Saturday 30 July, when Italia in Piazza will join other food and drink traders selling cheeses, meats, pastries, fruit, vegetables and speciality foods.

Full details, including times, scheduled entertainment acts and other activities organised for both the Children’s Market and Summer Food & Drink Market events will be announced in the near future.
