Vacancy for Hailsham Town Councillor

A vacancy has arisen for the office of town councillor in the Hailsham South & West ward.

Cllr Lesley Collinson officially stepped down yesterday [21 November] and Hailsham Town Council intends to fill the vacancy either by co-option or election if requested.

Town Clerk John Harrison said: “On behalf of the Town Council, I would like to thank Cllr Mrs Collinson for everything she has done. We are sorry to see her go and wish her well in all future endeavours.”

Requests for an election to fill this vacancy should be addressed to: The Returning Officer, Wealden District Council, Vicarage Lane, Hailsham, BN27 2AX by Wednesday 13th December 2017.

On receipt of a request in writing to the Returning Officer from any TEN electors from the Hailsham South & West Parish, an election to fill the vacancy will be held no later than Tuesday 20th February 2018. If no such request is made the vacancy will be filled by the Town Council in the form of a co-option.

Mr Harrison added: “Being a town councillor is an opportunity to help make a difference to the quality of life for all Hailsham residents. You don’t need any special qualifications; all you need is an interest in local issues and doing things for the good of the town, an ability to make decisions at grass roots level, and a willingness to commit to up to several hours each month.”
