Council News & Services, Town Revitalisation

Hailsham Forward Meeting 2017

Local councillors, businesses and community groups came together for Hailsham Forward’s latest stakeholder group meeting, which was held at Diplocks Hall this morning [27 January].

The current town centre roadworks, Hailsham Street Market and this year’s community events were just a few of the items discussed by the ‘Town Team’, which aims to bring together key local stakeholders including Hailsham Town Council to review the best ways to revitalise the town centre and surrounding urban environment.

Updates were provided on the transport improvement scheme being developed for Hailsham town centre by East Sussex County Council in partnership with Wealden District Council, Hailsham Town Council and Hellingly Parish Council.

Also discussed was the continued improvement and renovation of shopfronts in the town centre (including those in the Quintins Centre and Vicarage Field) and the ongoing success of the Hailsham Loyalty Card which now has 24 businesses participating in the scheme.

An update was provided on the opening of a new pop-up shop in the High Street, of which the local Chamber of Commerce has recently secured tenancy of an empty shop for future temporary use to help attract more shoppers to Hailsham town centre.

“Hailsham Forward continues to work on a number of objectives for revitalising the town,” said Deputy Town Clerk and Business Enterprise Manager Mickey Caira.

“Hailsham is already on the road to regeneration with the opening of new businesses in the town centre, improvements to the regular street market and many more town revitalisation objectives.”

Town and district councillor Nick Collinson, who is chairman of the Hailsham Forward Executive, commented: “Hailsham Forward is a partnership involving representatives from many sectors of the local community all with a common goal – working to put town revitalisation plans and proposals into action.”

“We will continue to listen to the views of stakeholders while we work on various revitalisation projects, keeping the local community informed at all times.”
