The Mayor of Hailsham will attend the Royal Air Force Association’s Battle of Britain commemorative service on Sunday 16th September at Hailsham Parish Church at 10.30am.
The service will pay tribute to lives lost or affected during the famous air attack above British skies in the summer and autumn of 1940. Taking place at Hailsham Parish Church, Hailsham Town Council members will be attending alongside air cadets and representatives from the Royal Air Force Association, Royal British Legion and Wealden District Council.
Following the service, Town Mayor Councillor Nigel Coltman and uniformed dignitaries will attend a wreath-laying ceremony at the Hailsham War Memorial.
Looking forward to the opportunity to show his support, Councillor Coltman said: “The annual Battle of Britain Service is always a poignant day and we must never forget the courageous men and women whose lives have ended defending our freedom. As veterans grow older, it is essential that we stop to reflect on the substantial sacrifices made by their generation during past conflicts.”
“I would encourage local residents to attend the service and give up a few minutes of their time to remember the airmen and members of the Royal Air Force who sacrificed their lives through bravery so that we could live in freedom.”
“My fellow town councillors and I are proud to be representing the people of Hailsham at this important service of appreciation.”
