Hailsham Town Council has agreed to a request from the Hailsham Festival Committee for a funding contribution in order to help support the continued growth of the Festival’s in the future.

The Hailsham Festival, which takes place every September and is one of the highlights of the town’s events calendar, attracts a cross-section of artists and performers from the South East and further afield, and offers a wide variety of exhibits and performances to suit all tastes.

Run entirely by a committee of volunteers with no paid staff, the Festival has a sustained track record of excellence and, as the festival has grown, core costs have also increased, of which Hailsham Town Council has agreed  to provide funding of £5,000 to support the project.

One such example of increased costs – and a central component of the recent expansion of the festival and community engagement according to the Hailsham Festival Committee – has been the delivery of festival programme brochures to every household in Hailsham and the surrounding villages.

“Many of these new running costs are vital in terms of making sure that residents and visitors are able to engage with the opportunities on offer at the annual Hailsham Festival,” said Town Mayor and Chairman of Hailsham Town Council, Cllr Paul Holbrook.

“More and more festival attendees have found out about the events and activities on offer from the delivered programme brochures, which is one of the reasons for the Town Council agreeing to offer funding assistance for the Festival Committee.

Cllr Holbrook added: “Hailsham and its environs have such an amazingly rich seam of arts and culture with a wealth of artistic talent and, with the help of additional Town Council funding, I’m sure organisers will surpass all expectations again at future festivals.”

“On behalf of the Town Council, I’d like to thank the Hailsham Festival Committee, along with the community groups and individuals in the town for all the hard work and generous support given to organising the festivals to date – and contributing to its success.”

Dr Tony Biggin, chairman of Hailsham Festival said: “We are absolutely thrilled that Hailsham Town Council have offered to fund us so generously. The grant will enable us to plan for 2020 with confidence and help us create a festival which maintains the quality and excellence for which we are becoming increasingly well known.”
